Dear NCHS Family,

Get ready to cheer on our seniors as they embark on their Senior Internship journey starting Tuesday, May 21st! From May 21st to June 7th, 302 seniors will be interning 25 hours per week throughout our local community and Fairfield County. Students will gain real-world experience in a professional work environment while developing new skills, discovering possible career opportunities, applying knowledge from the classroom to the workplace, and building a network that can assist them with future internships and jobs. Be sure to follow the students’ journey on NCPS social media. We will also send weekly pictures in the newsletter, and a video montage will be posted on the website during the last week of school.

Seniors, today is your last day at NCHS, and we wish you the best of luck in your next adventure.

DEPARTMENT NEWS:

MATH:

Congrats to all the students who took AP Math tests this week! Over 150 students took Precalculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and Statistics tests.

The NCHS math team traveled to Canton, MA, for the New England regional competition, placing 8th out of 16 schools in the large school division. Congratulations to seniors Luke Huang, Daryl Lavin, and Alex Powers on a great year!

Earlier in the year, the BC calculus class designed curves that, when revolved around an axis, would create either a King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Pawn for a chess set. They then used calculus to determine the volume of the pieces.

This week, we played with TinkerCad with our converted Desmos graphs so that we could 3D print them.

Students in Mrs. Buccieri’s Algebra 1 class reviewed for their Quadratics test by practicing math problems on mini whiteboards to test their knowledge and skills!

ADVANCED TV BROADCASTING:

As the school year is winding down, several events remain to broadcast. On Wednesday, NCTV seniors had their last broadcast at NCHS. Later that day, it was Senior Night for boys volleyball, and NCTV was there to stream the game, a 3-0 Ram win. But it wasn’t all work – we also took a moment to celebrate our seniors in class and have a little fun. A special thanks to all our seniors –  station managers Anav Sahay and Sydney Sibilia, Ethan Bonheur, Eva Campbell, Will Langford, and Robbie Williams. We will miss you guys!!

JOURNALISM:

Get ready; the annual Courant Senior Issue will be out on Monday! Courant seniors have been working very hard the past few weeks to produce a fun issue full of exciting stories and killer graphics of reflection, nostalgia, and the places they’ll go…We will miss our seniors and wish them the best of luck!

PE & HEALTH:

Juniors in Health made posters to advocate for positive Mental Health and wellness. The posters were then put on the Mental Health wall for Mental Health Awareness Month. A lot of students were interested in the wall as they walked by. #SkillsBuildHealth #MentalHealthAwareness.

SCHOOL COUNSELING:

Seniors: Stop in and see your counselor and let us know about your final plans. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments! Have you done your Senior Exit Survey?

Juniors: Counselors would love to see you before you leave for the summer to talk about where you are in your post-high school plans. Look for an invitation to sign up for a Junior Chat in the next few weeks!

Sophomores: Counselors have worked with you quite a bit this year through your Building Block time to prepare you for post-high school life. They are here if you want to talk about all the other things in your life, too!

Freshmen: You have come a long way from those first days of high school. We look forward to working with you next year! Good luck with the finals!
